At Historic Christ Church & Museum you will find one of the most important and well-preserved buildings of Virginia's colonial period. This National Historic Landmark is a must-see destination for fans of architecture and Virginia history. It is located in Weems, Lancaster County, in the Northern Neck, along the Chesapeake Bay. This region is among the nation's most scenic and historic areas with bucolic landscapes, vibrant small towns, and maritime activities.

The 1735 church was built by Robert "King" Carter, Virginia's most powerful planter. A monumental and sophisticated brick building, it was no doubt an astonishing sight for eighteenth-century rural Virginians. Today, the historic site features tours of the church, as well as a museum, gift shop, and conference center. It serves as the venue for special events, research, community gatherings, school programs, and continuing education for all ages.

Founded in 1958, The Foundation for Historic Christ Church is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and the governing body of Historic Christ Church & Museum. Its mission is to preserve and interpret this national treasure, to celebrate its community, and to share its heritage through education, history, and scholarship.

You can support this important landmark of Virginia's historic legacy not only by visiting the church and its museum but also by donating. You have a broad range of options to contribute to the upkeep of the building and the continuation of the many educational, cultural, and social programs that take place here. You can also support us by becoming a volunteer. And you can always support us by coming to one of the many fun events we organize throughout the year.
