Robert Carter writes to his old friend, Major [George] Eskridge of Westmnoreland County, May 25, 1728, to send him a surveyor's commission and to remind him that James Thomas must post bond before being given the commission.

Majr. Eskridge
Sir --
I have neglected hitherto the Sending Thomas
Commission for the Surveyors place of your County
I now Transmit
to you
by Mr. Warner
with the bond that you must See Executed with a good
Security to be Joined with Thomas in the bonds which you are
to have done before you deliver Thomas the Commission all
this I have undertaken the Care of to Colonel Beverley,
and I
rely up
on you for the performance of my promise, I wrote to you Yesterday
by Miller. Uncle Willson
I see not yet I am
Your Affectionate humble Servant --
