Robert Carter writes to London merchant Micajah Perry, June 29, 1727, to inform him of the wine order he is sending to Hayward Miles & Rider of Madeira and directing him to pay the bill for it when it arrives.

This is only to advise you I have this day writ to
Mess. Hayward Miles and Rider Merchts. at Madera for two pipes of wine
and have directed them to draw their bills on you for paymt. which I de

Robert Carter generally used a return address of "Rappahannock" for the river on which he lived rather than "Corotoman," the name of his home, on his correspondence, especially to merchants abroad. The county and colony have been added for clarity.
[1] The letter immediately above this one in the letter book was the order for wine directed to Haward Miles & Rider and it was sent by "Capt: Whiteside, Madera."
