Letter from Robert Carter to the Duke of Newcastle, January 5, 1727

     Robert Carter writes to the Duke of Newcastle, January 5, 1727, the Principal Secretary of State, to acknowledge receipt of letters from the King and from the Duke. He notes that ill health has prevented him from being in Williamsburg as often as he would have wished, but believes all necessary actions have been taken.

Rt. honble Duke of New Castle Principal Secty of State

May it please yor: Grace -- --

     I think it my duty to acquaint yor: Grace wth: my
receipt of the honour of his Majesty's Sign Manual on the 15th of Octobr.
& I have now the honour of yor: Graces Letter of Sept: date Signifying his
Majestys Satisfaction in my continuing for the present in the Admin
istration of the Governmt. a Sickly Indisposition I have bin under
for the most part of this year which the winter hath in some meas=
ure removed, hath not allowd me to be so often or so long at the Seat of
the Governmt:
as might otherwise have bin Expected however am in
hopes nothing hath bin Omitted within the duty of my place for
his Majesty's Service or the good of the Colony I am with most
Dutifull respect --
