Robert Carter and his son-in-law, Mann Page, write to London merchant William Dawkins, June 29, 1723, covering a shipment of 19 hogsheads of tobacco from the estates of Carter's son-in-law, Nathaniel Burwell. They enclose an invoice (not present) for goods chiefly for Burwell's children, and notify Dawkins of a bill of exchange they have drawn on him to Henry Armistead. A later addition reports some more bills of exchange.

Bill of ladeing for 19 hhds of Mr. Burwells Tobo consign'd [to you]
in that Shipt some of the Choicest of the Crops

     You have herewith a Invoyce for some goods
Cheifly for the Childrens supply what you have sent
hitherto hath bin very well liked & we hope you will Still
be able to please they are to be sent into York river & delivered
at Mrs. Burwells Either in your own or in some other good forward Ship.
