Robert Carter writes to his attorney and friend, John Holloway,August 25, 1720, concerning the lawsuit between his sister-in-law,Mary (Landon) Jones Swan, and her husband, noting that she "lyes atthe Mercy of her Mortal Enemy" who wishes to leave her a meagreliving, and is boasting that he will appeal the case to England if heshould not win his appeal to the General Court in Virginia. Carteralso thanks Holloway for his letter informing Carter that themortgage between Carter and Edmund Jenings had been executed.
