     Virginia etc. --

Robert Carter & James Blair Esquires two of the Judges of the General Court in
Chancery. --
To William Ball John Turbervile Thomas Pinkard & Thomas Carter Gentlemen
Greeting We do by these presents Commissionate Authorize & Require you or
any three of you to cause to Appear before you all such persons as
Walter Armes & Charles Tayler & Martha his Wife shall
Nominate unto you & take their Depositions in a suit in Chancery
Depending the 1st. Day of the next General Court between the said
Walter Armes Complainant & Charles Taylor & Martha his Wife Respondents
on behalf of both Parties each party having lawful notice of
time & place of taking the same & all Depositions by y [ou] so
taken you are together w. [ . . . ] his Comission in Due tim [. . . ]
the Sevr. y's office herein you are not to fail Given u [nder our]
hands the 21st Day of March 1716 in the 3d. Year of [the reign]

[1] William Ball (1686-1745) of "Millenbeck," Lancaster County, not far from "Corotoman," was a close friend of Carter's, a justice, burgess, and wealthy and powerful man. ( Nina Tracy Mann, "William Ball of Millenbeck," Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Magazinet , 25(Dec. 1975), 2773-2779.

[4] Walter Armes's will was probated in Lancaster County February 12, 1717, and lists several plantations to be divided among his children, Walter, Daniel, and Hannah. ( Ida J. Lee.
