Robert Carter notifies London merchant that he is shipping 12 hogsheads of tobacco belonging to the estate of Ralph Wormeley and that copies are being sent by two ships.

Robert Carter generally used a return address of "Rappahannock" for the river on which he lived rather than "Corotoman," the name of his home, on his correspondence, especially to merchants abroad. The return address, county, and colony have been added for clarity to this unheaded letter.
[1] This letter follows in the letter book one dated the previous day of the year 1704.
[2] The impost was the duty imposed by Britain on imported tobacco.
