Robert Carter generally used a return address of "Rappahannock" for the river on which he lived rather than "Corotoman," the name of his home, on his correspondence.

[1] The Industry was recorded in a Collector's return, 1700 December 25-1701 March 29 , for the Rappahannock River as having been built at Hull in 1698, 180 tons, owned by John Purvis , Isaac Cocks , Edmund Leigh , Samuel Lane , Philip Wilkinson , Richard Phillips , Mordecai Green , and her captain, John Blenkerne .
