Description

Offered in partnership with Rappahannock Community College’s Rappahannock Institute for Lifelong Learning program (RILL), this course examines the momentous events that made 1619 a landmark year in the history of Virginia: the meeting of the first representative assembly in the New World, the arrival of the first Africans to English North America, the recruitment of English women in large numbers to the colony, the first English Thanksgiving in North America and the development of Virginia’s entrepreneurial and innovative spirit. The course explores what led to these extraordinary events and the profound impact they had on Virginia and the United States.
