“Equalled by Few; Excelled by None:” Virginia Women in History
Elizabeth Varon presents “Southern Lady, Yankee Spy: The True Story of Elizabeth Van Lew, A Union Agent in the Heart of the Confederacy”
Elizabeth Van Lew headed up a Union spy ring in the Confederate capital that aided Federal prisoners there and gathered intelligence for the U.S. army. Her dramatic wartime exploits have been shrouded in myth, but University of Virginia historian Elizabeth Varon reveals that the facts of her remarkable life are truly more compelling than fiction.
Book signing, wine and cheese reception with author immediately follow the presentation.
