Letter from Robert Carter to Captain John Hyde and Company, July 23, 1728

Robert Carter writes to London merchants Captain John Hyde and Company, July 23, 1728, to send an invoice (not present) for his children's needs, asking that particular care be taken with his daughter Mary's shoes. He will send an invoice for "Selling Goods" by the Carter which should sail in about three weeks.

Gent --

I have already writ to you at length This
Serves to Enclose an Invoice for Some Goods to Supply the Call of
my Younger Children the next year. The things you Sent last
fitted and pleased well Enough pray let my Daughter Marys
things be large Enough particularly her Shoose, this year they fitted
very well and never before,

I have another Small Invoice for a few
Selling Goods but I cannot now get it ready it must come
by the Carter which I reckon will be ready to leave us in abt.
three weeks with little more then two thirds of her Loading By
whom you will have a little more Tobbofrom me I am

Robert Carter generally used a return address of "Rappahannock" for the river on which he lived rather than "Corotoman," the name of his home, on his correspondence, especially to merchants abroad. The county and colony have been added for clarity to the heading on the draft.
