Letter from Robert Carter to Arthur Bailey, June 15, 1702
Robert Carter writes to London merchant Arthur Bailey, June 15, 1702, that he is shipping 17 hogsheads of tobacco belonging to the estate of Ralph Wormeley to be credited to the accounts of Wormeley's sons, Carter being one of the estate's executors.

I herewth. Cover a Bill of Lading for Seventeen hogsheads Tobaccoe on Board the America
belonging to the Estate of Esqr. Wormeley
deceased Consign'd
to you for Dispose, your accots. must Run in the Name of
the Infant Executrs. of the sd. Esqr. . Wormeley, I am one of his
Executrs. during their Minority I hope you'll take all the Care
you Can in the dispose of this tobaccoe 'twill be a Leading
argumt. to Intrust more of this Concern to you hereafter, I hope
the Tobacco will Rise well, and give you the Advantage of a good
sale. I am Sr.

Robert Carter generally used a return address of "Rappahannock" for the river on which he lived rather than "Corotoman," the name of his home, on his correspondence, especially to merchants abroad. The county and colony have been added for clarity.
