Mary Ferrari presents “Mary Draper Ingles: Her Long Walk Home and Her Even Longer Impact”

Join Radford University historian Mary Ferrari as she recounts the incredible journey of Mary Draper Ingles, who was captured by Shawnee Indians in 1755 but escaped back to Virginia with a perilous 400-mile trek that made her a legend.

Book signing, wine and cheese reception with author immediately follow the presentation.

All proceeds benefit preservation and education programs at Historic Christ Church & Museum.

Elizabeth Varon presents “Southern Lady, Yankee Spy: The True Story of Elizabeth Van Lew, A Union Agent in the Heart of the Confederacy”

Elizabeth Van Lew headed up a Union spy ring in the Confederate capital that aided Federal prisoners there and gathered intelligence for the U.S. army. Her dramatic wartime exploits have been shrouded in myth, but University of Virginia historian Elizabeth Varon reveals that the facts of her remarkable life are truly more compelling than fiction.

Last Day of the 2018 Visitor Season

Last day to visit Christ Church, the museum and gift shop in 2018. Foundation offices are open by appointment from Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, December 1, 2018, through March 31, 2019. Closed Christmas Eve through New Year's Day. Research library access and special group tours are available by appointment.

"The Holly & The Ivy": A Traditional Carol Sing

Celebrate the season at Historic Christ Church & Museum with traditional songs, carols, and music. Join in this seasonal songfest in the beautifully "greened" church. Featuring members of The Chesapeake Chorale and the Christchurch School Cantorion. Dress warmly. Refreshments follow in The Bayne Center.
