2017 HCC&M Sunday Lecture Series: Virginia’s Gardens: Past & Present

Sunday, April 2, 2017

2:00 pm

Adam Erby presents “The General in the Garden: George Washington’s Landscape at Mount Vernon.”

Join Mount Vernon Assistant Curator Adam Erby as he brings to life the gardens George Washington created at Mount Vernon. Erby will describe Washington’s design efforts in the years between the American Revolution and the Constitutional Convention of 1787 to show how Washington drew on British designs but adapted them to his circumstances to create a truly American landscape. Erby will also highlight the groundbreaking archaeological and scientific analysis Mount Vernon is using to restore the landscape and gardens to their appearance in 1799, the year Washington died.

Book signing, wine, and cheese reception with author immediately follow the presentation.

All proceeds benefit preservation and education programs at Historic Christ Church & Museum.
